Reflections

Reflection: My partner and I first had a conversation about our differences and similarities and recorded them in our sketchbook. To cater to the theme, we want to emphasize our differences and similarities, so we choose to make a multi-layer poster. After discussion, we plan to make a three layers poster. The top layer is our similarities, the second layer is our differences, and the last layer is our portraits. To make our two posters more relevant, we designed to divide the words in common into two parts. The same words can be understood when two posters are combined. We choose to hollow out words with a carving knife so that words will not cover the next two layers. For the second layer, we choose translucent paper. Similarly, we do not want the second layer to cover our portrait. For the portrait on the last layer, we chose our favorite game, which also represents our differences. We cut out the portraits and stick them on grey paper because we want the background to be more colorful rather than white. We use pastels to draw and write around our portrait on translucent paper, and the content is different for us. When combining the three parts, we choose to glue the upper left and right corners with tape, so that the audience could open and look through our posters.

Group Discussion: During the group discussion, we received comments from another group and proposals that could be further modified. Because the texture and color of pastels are not obvious, it is difficult to read our words and sentences. We will change pastels to markers or acrylic If we can further develop it. But in general, we highlighted the theme, and another team liked the design of the multi-layer.

Exhibition Reflection: When I saw the exhibition held by classmates, I found three works that attracted me very much. The color palette used on the poster by the first group shocked me. At the first sight, I thought it was a movie poster. This black and white main color combination with red bold characters gives me the feeling of an old movie in the 1980s. The second group of posters has the same part as our posters. They also divide the word ‘disorganized’ into two parts. The word is showing complete when two posters are combined. I think the third group of posters is the most interesting because their posters are not limited to 2d. In addition to the posters themselves, they have also made extended designs and 3d works.
